reminder about "rule of five power notes" and what they should look like

Rule of Five Power Notes help you to identify the key information. Also (in the case of research for a paper) because you paraphrase as you go, you will avoid plagiarizing later.  This is the format in which you should be completing all homework notes.
1.   Carefully
read the information you are studying.  (One paragraph at a time.)

2.   Identify the key facts that you will need to remember.

3.   Take a note, no more than five words in length.

4.   Do not use complete sentences.  Try to put the information in your own words as you go.  Use synonyms, re-word, summarize, paraphrase.  (ex. the text says “important leader”, you write “influential”)

5.   Names and dates count as one word.

Rule of Five Power Notes will be graded according to an 8 point scale.  The requirements to earn each score are outlined below:

0

The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors below

1-2

The Student paraphrases a limited amount of key information, demonstrating knowledge and understanding of content and concepts and makes limited use of the Rule of Five Power Note system.

3-4

The Student paraphrases some key information, demonstrating detailed knowledge and understanding of content and concepts and makes some use of the Rule of Five Power Note system.

5-6

The Student paraphrases considerable amounts of key information, demonstrating detailed knowledge and understanding of content and concepts and mostly uses of the Rule of Five Power Note system.

7-8

The Student consistently paraphrases key information, demonstrating detailed knowledge and understanding of content and concepts and makes 100% accurate use of the Rule of Five Power Note system.
